BLOOD, COMPONENTS, AND INDICATIONS
BLOOD
COMPOSITION
INDICATIONS
1.  Whole blood
Red blood Cell leukocytes, platelets clotting factors and plasma, hematocrit about 40%.
Blood volume replacement and oxygen, and maintain hemoglobin at 120-140g/L.
2.  Packed red blood cells
Red blood cells with plasma (hematocrit 75%) some platelets white blood cells.Red blood 0.30 plasma. Some leucocytes and platelet
Increases red blood cell mass. To increase the haematocrit to a minimum level of 30%. To correct red blood cell deficiency and improve oxygen capacity of blood.
3.  Platelets random
Platelets (5.5x10 platelets unit) plasma and some red blood cells, white blood cells lymph o`cites
Bleeding due to severe decrease in platelets. To maintain normal blood coagulability.
4.platelets
- single donor
Platelets (3x10/unit)
1 unit is equivalent to 6-8 units of random platelets.
Used for repeated alloimmuization risk by limiting exposure to multiple donors.
5. plasma
Plasma: all coagulation factors complement.
-Bleeding in patients with coagulation.
-Patient with coagulation factors deficiency.
-plasmapheresis.

6. granulocytes
Neutrophils(greater than 1x10/unit) lymphocytes, some red blood cells and platelets
Severe neutropenia
7. lymphocytes(white blood cells) cryo precipitate
